When I was 5 years old my mother developed a disease that reduced her platelet levels to 0.2% of her normal level. The doctors gave her a 50/50 chance of survival. My dad took me to a toy store and bought me a pack of Pokemon cards after a meeting with my mom’s doctor. In that pack I got a holofoil Ursaring card. I loved the card and figured that if I could be brave like Ursaring, my mom would be fine. When my mom went into surgery to have her spleen removed, my sister painted a ring on my stomach just like Ursaring’s so I would be strong. My mom’s platelet levels are now better than average and Ursaring remains my favorite Pokemon.
